Food outlets across the UK are starting to issue free drinks, discounts and more to NHS staff to thank them for their work during the Coronavirus outbreak. McDonald's were the first with their free drinks offer, and now other stores are also joining in including Pret, Costa, Starbucks, Greggs, Caffe Nero and more.
Here's what's available to NHS workers right now, listed in alphabetical order:
Burger King: Free Drinks for NHS Workers, Emergency & Social Workers
As a show of support and as a thank you Burger King are offering free drinks for all NHS workers, emergency and social workers.
Burger King tweeted: "From all of us at Burger King, we want to say thank you, to all the incredible emergency services, health and social care workers, for all your efforts to keep us safe and secure at this difficult time. If you show your NHS ID at the counter, drinks are on us. Love BK"
Caffe Nero: Free Hot Drinks For Medical Staff
Caffe Nero are offering free coffee, tea and hot chocolate to all medical staff as a thank you for "working tirelessly through this crisis."
They also said "To all the medical staff out there, we salute you! To keep things easy please bring along your medical ID when ordering your drink."
Carluccio's: Free Hot Drinks + 50% Off Everything Else For NHS Staff
Carluccio's have announced they are joining other stores by giving free hot drinks to all NHS staff as well as increasing their NHS discount to 50% off food and drink in their restaurants, on takeaway, and all products including pasta, sauces rice, biscuits and gifts in their delis - just show us your NHS ID to claim.
Costa Coffee: Free Hot Drinks For NHS Staff
Costa Coffee* are joining other stores by offering free hot drinks to all NHS workers, plus they are also delivering 1 million Costa Coffee Ready To Drink Cans to key workers and emergency staff.
In a post on their website Costa said:
"Like so many, we want to thank those NHS workers at the forefront of this crisis and provide them with a well-deserved coffee break. All coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be free of charge to NHS workers for two weeks from tomorrow. We are fortunate to be present in many hospitals and nearby locations so our heroes won’t have to go far to take us up on our offer. Just show your NHS badge in any Costa store for your free drink.
"Costa Coffee will support those in need within local communities. We will be providing food and drink to those who need it most, and allowing our teams to support their own communities. We are kick starting our community support next week by delivering 1 MILLION Costa Coffee Ready to Drink cans to key workers. That’s people like NHS workers, the emergency services and those caring for others."
Greggs: Free Hot Drinks For All Emergency Service Personnel, Health And Social Care Workers
Greggs are offering free hot drinks to all emergency service personnel and health and social care workers at any of their outlets on presentation of work passes. These are takeaway only, since Greggs announced the closure of their seated areas in selected stores.
Hotel Chocolat: 50% Off For NHS Staff
Hotel Chocolat is offering all NHS workers a 50% discount on its products in store, as a “thank you” for their work during the coronavirus outbreak.
Chief executive Angus Thirlwell said:
“Our locations are so close to so many major hospitals, it made sense for us to do something. That’s why any NHS worker can get a 50% discount in our stores with presentation of their pass. We hope when the day’s over they can have a chocolate or two to relax.”
McDonalds: Free Drinks For All NHS, Council & Emergency Service Staff
From 17th March McDonalds* are giving all NHS, council and emergency service staff free drinks to stay thank you for their tireless work during the coronavirus epidemic. The fast food chain wants to reward staff with free drinks in their restaurants and Drive Thrus if they show their work pass when ordering.
A spokesperson said: "We want to use our UK and Ireland footprint to thank, reward and support the health and care workers doing an incredible job in difficult and unprecedented times.This offer is a token of our appreciation for the tireless work that these professionals are carrying out in the communities in which we operate."
The offer is for NHS, council and emergency service staff and they can get any drink including cold drinks and McCafe hot drinks.
Nando's: 50% Off Everything For All Members Of The NHS
Nando's are rewarding all staff members of the NHS with 50% off everything at their restaurants across the UK. They announced the news on their Twitter and Facebook pages stating:
'Heroes get hungry, and we can't thank you enough for all that you're doing. Here's 50% off on us.'
Pizza Hut: 50% Off Takeout Food For NHS Staff
Pizza Hut are offering 50% off all takeaway food to say thank your to health service workers during the Coronavirus outbreak.
Pizza hut announced the move on social media with the following:
"To support our NHS staff, we're giving all NHS workers 50% off Takeaway Food. Just show us yout NHS ID Card when you call your local Hut or pop in to order. Available all day, every day on Takeaway Food from your local Pizza Hut Restaurant. Excludes Deals, Drinks, Online orders and Deliveroo and Uber Eats orders. Valid NHS ID Card must be shown."
Pret: Free Hot Drinks + 50% Off Everything Else For All NHS Staff
From 18th March Pret* are offering all NHS staff free hot drinks, as well as a 50% discount on everything else they sell, as a way to thank those workers for all that they are doing during the Coronavirus outbreaks. The stores are operating on a take-out only basis with seating areas closed.
Starbucks: Free Filter Coffee For NHS, Council and Emergency Service Staff
Starbucks are currently offering free filter coffee to all worker of the NHS, Council and Emergency Services. Just show your work ID card and you won't be charged!
YO Sushi! : 50% Off All Food For NHS & Emergency Service Workers
YO Sushi are increasing their NHS discount to 50% off all food during the Coronavirus crisis. The company announced:
"Not all heroes wear capes - At YO! we are extremely grateful to all of the NHS workers who are working tirelessly & selflessly during this critical time. To say thanks, we are increasing our Blue Light Card discount to 50% on all food including takeaway orders. If you're a member of the emergency services or the NHS, we want to show you some YO! love by giving you discount off food in our restaurants.

Domino's are saying thank you to NHS workers by offering free pizza to all NHS staff at selected stores on Friday 20th March.
Writing on Facebook, the pizza store said:
"We want to say thank you to all of our doctors, nurses and NHS staff who are working tirelessly day and night to keep us safe in these difficult times. This Friday we are giving free pizza to all NHS staff across all of our DS Group Domino's branches. To redeem your free medium pizza for collection, bring your ID into one of the stores listed below on Friday 20th March."
