The Play and Learn Nursery Rhymes programme is a lovely, gentle way to introduce some educational entertainment to your little one. Or at least my friend tells me so. She's had a VTech console since her eldest, now five, was 18 months old. I was probably a bit remiss in not getting one. Instead son inherited his grandmother's old Windows 95 computer. I had a number of old children's CD-ROMs for the operating system, and got a pile more off someone on Freecycle when he was about a year old. Personally I feel that option is better, to give him computer skills. However, the games appear to be about the same, and she has the advantage of being able to use the 40inch plasma TV screen with hers!
This particular programme provides sing-along fun with five favourite nursery rhymes. Mother Goose guides your baby through an introduction to basic numbers, colours, shapes and animals. Rhymes include Mary had a Little Lamb, Pop! Goes the Weasel, Three Little Kittens, Row row row your 
boat and Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush.
Friendly on-screen characters encourage active play with a movement game and teach the baby sign language for animal names.
