Nothing helps a kid understand the solar system like a model. I had one as a kid and loved it. The set really gave me an interest in the planets, and in stargazing, that I probably wouldn't have had otherwise. This 3-D Solar System is reduced by Tesco Direct from £9.98 to £4.98.
This is a great way to learn about the solar system. Hang the 8 planets and Pluto from the ceiling (a tack for this is provided) and stick the 200 adhesive stars around them in the right places. Don't worry you won't have to try and remember this yourself, as it is all shown in the guide that comes with the 3D Solar System set. The best of it is that the planets and stars all glow in the dark, thanks to the glominite in each one. It is recommended for the age range of 5 years and upwards.
The 3D Solar System set is also £9.98 at Amazon. There it has some fabulous reviews. This comment is fairly typical. "We purchased the 3-D Solar System for my 7 year old son who was studying the planets in school. The planets looked fantastic, although the planet colours are not accurate, but the star pins provided have held the planets in place well, which continue to glow months later." The main gripe that anyone has is that the mobile doesn't have a sun, just the planets. Presumably the light fitting is meant to act as the sun.
