McDonald's may be best known for burgers, but it's the breakfast
McMuffins which many customers will miss the most during lockdown.
The good news is you can now make your own, as McDonald's has shared a recipe for making one of its most popular
breakfast items while the restaurants are shut due to the coronavirus
pandemic.
The easy to follow recipe requires four main ingredients: and English
muffin, sausage meat, an egg and a slice of American style cheese. If you don't have pre-sliced American cheese, you could always slice up whatever cheese is in your fridge.
Sausage meat, is found inside sausages. You can split open their skins to remove the meat and form it into burger-shaped patties. Scottish-style square (lorne) sausage would work a treat too.
For the egg, you're going to need an egg ring, to get that perfect round shape like you'd find at Maccies. You'll also need a small frying pan and a grill.
How to make a McDonald's Egg McMuffin at home
English muffin
Toast until golden brown.
75g sausage meat
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper then shape into balls. Flatten into patty shapes and cook under a pre-heated grill for 6–7 minutes on each side (or as per instructions on packaging).
1 egg
Brush the inside of a metal ring with a little oil and place in a small frying pan. Pour in just enough water to cover the base then bring to the boil. Crack the egg into the ring, cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes.
1 American cheese slice
Assemble your McMuffin by layering the patty and egg on top of a slice of cheese... and enjoy!
