Beatrix Potter's most famous creation, Peter Rabbit, is to get his own 50p coin.
He will feature on the silver fun token to mark the 150th anniversary of the author's birth in 1866, and is the first children's fictional character to do appear on a coin.
The Royal Mint has said that three more Beatrix Potter characters will feature on special edition coins released later in the year to complete a four-piece collector's set.
Uncoloured regular 50p coins with the same designs will be released into general circulation later this year.
The coins were created by Royal Mint designer Emma Noble, who has previously worked on pieces commemorating the Diamond Jubilee and Remembrance Sunday.
She said: 'I wanted to put Beatrix Potter's illustrations to the forefront of my design as they are lovely images and the characters are very well known.
'I felt they were strong enough to stand alone and I designed them in this way as I thought they would work best for both the coloured commemorative and uncoloured circulating coins.'
We think the new coin looks absolutely wonderful and can't wait to see the next set of designs. These would be wonderful to keep for your children, and even more special if you have a baby due this year - that's a really special memento of their birth year.
