This is great news for those anyone affected by autism, as Morrisons* have launched a weekly 'Quieter Hour' in all stores. It will now take place in 493 stores every Saturday morning from 9am to 10am, and has been created with assistance from the National Autistic Society.
During the quiet hour stores will take measures to help reduce noise, bright lighting and busy activity to make things easier for those with autism.
The idea is to make the shopping experience as inclusive as possible, and to help shoppers who may struggle with a typical supermarket experience.
During Quieter Hours stores will:
- Dim the lights
- Turn music and radio off
- Avoid making tannoy announcements
- Reduce movement of trolleys and baskets
- Turn checkout beeps and other electrical noises down
- Place a poster outside to tell customers it’s Quieter Hour
Morrisons had trialled the hour in three stores, and are now rolling it across across the whole supermarket chain.
