The Barbie doll is about to get a makeover, and it's her biggest yet. Mattel Toys have announced that Barbie will soon be available in three new body types - Tall, Petite and Curvy.
As well as the three new body shapes available as part of the 2016 Barbie Fashionistas doll line, there will also be seven skin tones, 22 eye colours, and 24 hairstyles to choose from, along with countless different outfits and accessories. All these dolls will look very different to the original doll, and will all be called Barbie.
This is the biggest change that Barbie has undergone since she was launched in 1959, and will be very welcome news to those who criticise the brand for being out of touch and unrealistic.
Evelyn Mazzocco, the senior vice president of Barbie said:
"We are excited to literally be changing the face of the brand - these new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them - the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them. We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty."
The dolls are available to pre-order for US customers from today on the US Mattel website now, and will be available worldwide in the Spring.
What do you think of the new Barbie designs, and is it just me who thinks that 'curvy' Barbie looks amazing? Will you be buying one of these new Barbies for your child?
