If you have your very own mini JK Rowling at home then this will be right up their street! For the past 6 years BBC Radio 2 have launched an annual children's story writing competition called '500 Words'. This year's competition opens from tomorrow, Monday 18th January 2016.
This fab competition is the brainchild of Chris Evans, who is extremely passionate about encouraging reading and writing in youngsters. This competition has proved successful over the years and has been entered by nearly half a million pupils around the world!
This is perfect for schools, child care settings or individuals. The competition is open to youngsters between the ages of 5 and 13 years. All they have to do is write an original story on whatever interests them in 500 words or less and submit it online.
If your youngster wins they will have their story read out live on the radio by a celebrity! They can also win plenty of other prizes, including books and tickets to the final, read more about the prizes here*. The Final is attended by lots of celebrities, plenty of pop-star performances and even royalty, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will also be in attendance.
Don't forget to sign up on the website from the 18th January 2016, the competition closes on the 25th February at 7pm, so make sure your entry has been sent by then or it won't be counted. We're wishing you lots of luck!
