Would You Ever Re-Gift An Unwanted Christmas Present?

Have you ever re-gifted an unwanted Christmas present?

I can virtually hear sharp intakes of breath from those of you wouldn't dream of doing such a thing.

But a recent study by www.ijustloveit.co.uk has revealed that a surprising number of us are are quite happy to, um, 'recycle' old Christmas gifts in this way.

At least 10% of Londoners, 12% of West Midlanders and 13% of those from Northern Ireland have re-gifted a Christmas present they've received in a previous year.

To add insult to injury, this number includes giving the same, 'recycled' gift back to the original gift giver. Ok, even I did a sharp intake of breath at that point. Why on earth would you ever do that?

Of all the people asked, nearly 60% of them had said they have received 'unwanted' gifts at Christmas, with over 50% of them choosing to then give them away, and 25% of people choosing to sell them.

What's more, over 40%of people are currently buying for 6-10 people so, of those people, at least half of them will give their gifts away. That rather puts a dampener on your Christmas shopping, doesn't it?!

Over 67% of those from Yorkshire and Humber, and 64% of those from London state that they have received unwanted gifts. Now I can understand why people end up re-gifting items that are just unsuitable, not needed or ill-fitting. But I'll never get my head round why you'd hand such an item back to the person who gave it to you. Unless it's an accident. Or, you know, an "accident" but that's a pretty low blow if you ask me. Has this ever happened to you?

Happily, it seems we're not all Scroogey re-gifters when it comes to Christmas. The biggest spenders at Christmas are apparently from the North East, with 23% of people from the North East claiming to spend more than £600 on gifts at Christmas. I can well believe it. Buying for three kids at Christmas could easily amount to that judging by my children's letters to Santa this year!
