Plans To Ban Smacking In Wales

A public consultation on banning smacking in Wales begins today.

BBC News reports:

Plans to outlaw smacking children in Wales are going out to a three-month consultation. Ministers said removing the defence of reasonable punishment would make it clear smacking was "no longer acceptable". Charities including the NSPCC said this would bring Wales in line with dozens of other countries.

Smacking is illegal in schools and childcare environments, and has been outlawed in Scotland so it's anticipated that other parts of the UK will follow suit.

In a recent Playpennies poll on whether smacking should be banned, 50% of our readers voted against banning smacking while only 39% voted in favour of banning smacking. 10% of those polled said they hadn't made their mind up on the issue.
