Oh happy day! Mary Berry is set to launch her own range of ready-made cakes.
You know what this means. The likes of me are off the hook. No more trying (and failing) to whip up a Victoria sponge which invariably ends up reducing me to tears and looking (and tasting) like a door stop.
The Daily Mail reports:
So some may be shocked to hear that Mary Berry is to launch a supermarket range of ready-made creations, aimed at those who want to eat 'without having set foot in the kitchen'.
The products are based on some of the former Great British Bake Off judge's original recipes, including lemon drizzle, chocolate, carrot and banana fudge flavours.
Of course, critics will be up in arms about the ethics of the Queen of home-baking launching a range of ready-made cakes but I could care less about that.
No-one's going to think that a shop-bought cake can ever compare to a home-made one – but for busy mums and dads who are a little domestically-challenged, anything that makes our lives quicker and easier when it comes to the kitchen is a good thing.
And if whipping up your own Mary Berry creation is simply Never Going To Happen, the next best thing is surely a shop-bought cake that bears her name and has, presumably, had her input.
But what's your view? Are you thrilled that you'll be able to pop a Mary Berry cake on the table at tea-time without having a kitchen meltdown? Or are you clutching your pearls at the thought of Mary putting her name to anything that isn't truly home-made?
