The United Nations International Literacy Day falls on September 08 to raise awareness about literacy issues in the world. In countries all over the world, including the UK and the USA, the day is all about getting awareness levels up and involving people in literacy issues within their own communities.
What better way to celebrate back to school than with a campaign that supports the education of many?
ZooBooKoo create educational toys and gifts that work rather nicely with both back to school and with supporting literacy in the community. Some of these products include the Cube Book (which I rather love) that supports the National Literacy Strategy and is brilliant for 5-8 year olds and costs around £6.50.
Then there are Dude Dice that are, really, a variation on Boggle. You roll the dice and make as many words as you can before the time runs out. The game supports National Literacy Key Stage 1 and is loads of fun for kids. This is also around £6.50.
And finally, another in the National Literacy range, is the Horrid Handwriting booklet that is re-usable, double-sided, and comes with a dry wipe pen. It has magic heat-sensitive ink and the different magic boxes reveal rewards and mysteries. It also costs around £6.50.
