When I read Lidl were launching 1,000 Mystery Boxes full of their iconic middle aisle items I was desperate to get one. Costing £20 they promised a value of £100, with 50 lucky customers getting a big ticket item worth £199, so what did I get and was it worth it?
How to order a Lidl Mystery Box
Last Thursday (15th August) I was sitting with my credit card ready just before 10am and as the clock struck the hour I clicked the link and was pleasantly surprised to be able to add a box to my basket immediately (anyone who tried for the £2 Beauty Box will know that isn't usual) but having it in my basket was one thing, getting it through checkout quite another as I was about to find out. The CAPTCHA caught me out a few times but the biggest hurdle was that my card kept getting declined-a glitch I read repeatedly on X due to the volume of people trying to buy I suspect. Known for my tenacity I kept at it and (eventually!) secured one.
What was in my Lidl Mystery Box
Firstly it was huge. I already knew it was going to be sizeable but wasn't quite expecting it to quite as big as it was. This is something to consider if you're lucky enough to get one in the future as I wouldn't fancy picking this up from a neighbour, or even worse the local DPD depot.
There were 11 items in my box and I liked some things better than others. I love the mattress topper, the radio and the headphones and scissors and nail files are always handy. Being no budding musician I'll donate the keyboard and the pizza set isn't really something I'd use either but overall I'm very impressed.
Full list of items in my box:
- Keyboard
- Silentnight Self Heating Mattress Topper (King)
- Pizza Baking Set
- Silvercrest On Ear Bluetooth Headphones
- Laced footsie socks
- Lidl adult socks
- Silvercrest DAB Kitchen Radio
- Nail scissors
- Nail file
- Swimming Goggles
- iPhone Charging and Data Cable
Is the Lidl Mystery Box Worth it?
For me it was worth it yes, I got 11 items and as all the proceeds go to the NSPCC it was a bit of fun and I helped my favourite charity too. When you think each item works out at around £1.82 each it's hard not to be impressed by the value. Unfortunately there was no "big ticket" voucher inside my box but I still think it was worth it. I have a nice mix of items for myself and family and friends will be happy with the rest.
Did you manage to bag a box? What was in yours?
