Slime is on it's way out and we couldn't be more pleased. It destroyed our carpets, kids' clothes and most of all our sanity. Let's just say it's time for a new trend for our children to obsess over, and of course it's one that's stemmed from You Tube. It's ORIGAMI - the Japanese art of paper folding.
It's a heck of a lot cleaner than slime, so excuse me whilst I jump for joy.
Origami For Kids
I've always been fascinated by origami, how you can take a flat piece of paper, and turn it into something beautiful. There's no mess involved, no dramas, no scissors, and it's fun to do. Even little kids can join in.
From boats to animals, there's so much you can make. The paper can be recycled, so it's an eco-friendly trend too. Oh and let's talk about cost... you can get packs of paper for around £1, and that'll keep your little paper folders busy for hours.
There are sets and books you can buy, and some can be pricey. My advice is head over to The Works, where they have some great origami bits and bobs at great prices.
You can use the plainest of papers, through to fancy patterned stuff - and what the kids can create is endless. Expect lots of pretty paper flowers and random things lining your mantlepiece.
This Origami Monsters Kit* is a great start and for £2, you can't go wrong. It includes 24 sheets of spooky origami paper and instructions to make sharks, dinosaurs and much more.
For those that prefer animals there's this Origami Animals Kit*for £7. It comes with more paper and many more things to make.
