Once again, in plenty of time for Christmas, The Book People are selling Raymond Briggs' 'The Snowman' book and CD for £3.99 rather than its recommended list price of £12.99.
I adore Christmas and have certain rituals and things I like to do every year: making the Christmas cake on 1 October and feeding it brandy once a week until the week before Christmas day, by then it's...well, there just aren't adequate words to describe how amazing it is (amazing for the soul, terrible for your waist!)
I listen to Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Michael Buble and Co crooning all the usual Christmas songs whilst I'm putting up the decorations and writing umpteen million Christmas cards and I watch' 'The Snowman' - it has to be one of my favourite, and one of the most enduring, Christmas stories.
The book is just as wonderful as the TV adaptation, as is the CD; the illustrations are perfect and my heart feels sad every time the Snowman melts.
Just in case you have no clue what I'm talking about - WHERE have you been since 1978?! - The Snowman is the story about a little boy who builds a snowman in his garden, the snowman comes to life and, together, they go on a magical journey.
If you haven't seen it, read the book or listened to the CD, you must - Christmas isn't Christmas without The Snowman.
Happy getting in the mood for Christmas!
