Product Recall : Tesco Double Strength Apple & Blackcurrant Juice

Product Recall : Tesco Double Strength Apple & Blackcurrant Juice

appleandblackcurrant

There’s been a few reports online of Tesco’s Double Strength Apple & Blackcurrant Juice* being recalled and it was the talk of the playground this morning but as we could find nothing online officially from Tesco,we decided to give their customer service department a call this morning and find out exactly what was happening.

ALL bottles, 750ml and 1.5 L, have been recalled and the product has been withdrawn from stores. Tesco are advising  that customers return any bottles to their local Customer Service desk, whether you have a receipt or not, where a full refund will be issued.

Looks like it's still available to buy online though :

The money won’t be at the forefront of many parents minds though, I know it’s not mine, you’ll want to know exactly why these have been recalled and how it could have potentially affected your child.

Tesco were rather cagey on this. Refusing to confirm reports appearing online from parents that the juice has been causing vomiting, they would only confirm that “foreign bodies” have been found in some batches which along with an "unusual smell" have led to all returned bottles being sent to laboratories as soon as possible to try and identify any potential issues and the batches that may be affected.

Check your cupboards and if you have this at home, stop using it immediately and either return to the store for a full refund as above or if you wish to speak to Tesco about this yourself, the number to call is 0800 505555.

I actually tweeted Tesco last night about this as the juice actually stinks. I was really just having a moan about what I thought was a change of recipe. It smells vile and tastes disgusting! I don't care about getting the money back, it'll cost me more in petrol to return it than it's worth but I hate to think that kids have been made ill, if that's true.

Worryingly the same stuff is sold under different labels at Asda, lidl and aldi. Surely they must recall as well?

We use the tesco everday apple and blackcurrant squash. I take it this is not affected?

Perhaps this has to do with the various varieties of apples being recalled too? Granny Smith and Gala have been pulled if American imports

Terrible response from Tesco - they must know hundreds (possibly thousands) of children have been possibly affected yet they are doing their best to keep this quiet and hidden. Nothing on their product recall page (except a steam iron) and they are deleting comments about the recall from their facebook page.

http://www.tesco.com/productrecall/ Seriously, there's no sign on the page of this. Why would they not write that?

Your link goes to double strength Blackcurrant squash, the correct link is http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=263588172 which is not available. I had ordered some last week and it was substituted with Blackcurrant, and it's not been available online since.

The ingredients which are in the bottles that are not foreign should be your main concern when funneling this s*** down your kids necks.
